Client Story
Emerging Talent. Transforming Ideas. Evolving Media.
Sidetrack Films is an independent production and financing company formed by Ravi Anne in 2005. The company is dedicated to supporting emerging talent and unique perspectives, looking to work with compelling storytellers who want to entertain, inspire, and provoke.
Sidetrack Films gained their original success through making award-winning films on challenging subject-matter
Since its formation, Sidetrack Films has produced many noteworthy and meaningful movies. Their most recent film “Beautiful Losers” premiered at SXSW and helped solidify a movement. The film tells the story of how a group of outsiders with little or no formal training and almost no conception or interest of the inner workings of the art world, ended up having an incredible impact on the worlds of art, fashion, music, film and pop culture.
Their documentary film “Kurt Cobain About a Son” is an intimate and moving meditation on the late musician and artist. It was based on more than 25 hours of previously unheard audiotape conversations between Kurt Cobain and Michael Azerrad for the book “Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana”. The film was an instant cult-classic with a soundtrack which features R.E.M.‘s “New Orleans Instrumental No. 1,” Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World,” Pop’s “The Passenger,” Bad Brains’ “Banned in D.C.” and songs by Cobain influences such as the Melvins, the Vaselines, the Butthole Surfers and Scratch Acid.
Sidetrack Films gained their original success through making award-winning films on challenging subject-matter such as a Brazilian squatter settlement in Rio de Janeiro’s most feared slum (Favela Rising, 2005) or insurance claim adjustors in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in a crippled New Orleans (Low & Behold, 2007).
In 2006, AREA 17 was hired to develop the brand and create a visual identity and website that was representative of this fresh new company with guts and vision.
