A brief history of an agency website
Finally, AREA 17 launches a ‘normal’ website
AREA 17 opened the Paris office in 2006, three years after the company started in New York City. At that time, we had decided to launch a new website to mark our entry into the French and European market. A website that celebrated how international and jet-set cool we’d become…
A multi-language website. A website that transcended geographical boundaries. A website that… well, never was finished. Okay honestly, it was never started.
Today — nearly 3 years later — the website is ready. Well, almost. The website is only in English… but we really really promise, it will be translated to French soon. Proper French with finesse, class and a dash of wit.
Our first website, so eloquently titled ‘filebrowser 0.81’, aimed to be an expression of our belief that a website is a brand, personified. That our actions (e.g. our work) not our words, should define the character of the AREA 17 brand.
The website was the bare essentials, pushing our client work to the forefront with little regard to words or even navigational intrigue for that matter. Geeks we are. And that was fun.
Next up, we realized that a picture speaks a thousand words but we also had another few hundred that we wanted to include. A case study so to speak. Like, the story behind the work and in the end, was it successful? And, why exactly do we work with the clients we work with?
The website is only in English … but we really really promise, it will be translated to French soon.
So this is the new AREA 17 website. A new agency website with new fun features for us and for you. We look forward to your feedback and hope it was worth abandoning our friends and families — evenings and weekends — just to get it done. No pressure.
As for the filebrowser 0.81 … we have actually just rebuilt it from the ground up as an extremely portable plug-n-play app called Subfolio. It will be released publicly within the coming months. We promise this time.
