Biography
Ned Baldessin
Ned is possibly the most eclectic self-taught renaissance man at Area 17. Born in Australia, but raised in France, his passion for travel, art, personal discovery, and technology have allowed him to explore a diverse array of pursuits. His freelance career has included a wide range of clients: GOs (UNESCO), local communities, press and media (Madame Figaro, e-TFI, Canal Satellite), engineering (IdealX, Trane), eCommerce (Virgin Mobile, ING Direct), with a preference for cultural institutions (publishers like Éditions du Seuil, Éditions de l’Olivier, Bayard), but also music labels, national theaters, typographers, photographers and artists. With over fourteen years experience, he began his involvement with web standards evangelism and open source software in 2002 and began developing in HTML/CSS/JS since 1999, PHP since 2002, and Ruby on Rails since 2005.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, he also produced and filmed a documentary in Burkina Faso, opened an art gallery, sailed around the world, published poetry in Hungary, taught interface theory to masters students at a Parisian design school, and is currently working on reducing the world’s oil consumption … one bike ride to work at a time.
