The art of art handling

Paris, France — March 2007

Meet the people who bring you art… literally

Cartel Collections is a small agency located in Paris specializing in the preservation and management of art and cultural collections. They have worked with museums and institutions around the world including the Louvre and Picasso Museum in Paris.

They hired AREA 17 to design and develop their website and associated content management system (CMS).

The goal of the website was to give the agency international visibility through the presentation of their high-profile projects. Additionally, the website needed to clearly present the agency’s expertise and ‘cradle-to-grave’ services.

As we too are a project-oriented company, we tried to approach this website as if it were for ourselves.

The aim was to create an engaging visual experience focused around the projects that was both clever and user-friendly. And, through these projects, we hoped the user would clearly understand the scope of the agency’s expertise and services.

Clear distinction needed to be made between current and past projects. And given the fact that some of the founder’s personal projects were extremely interesting and relevant, they needed the ability to display them as well but with a clear distinction from the agency’s work.

Last but far from least, the website had to be bilingual — English and French of course — in order to accommodate international eyeballs.

We tried to approach this website as if it were for ourselves.

As part of this project, AREA 17 developed a simple-to-use and sustainable CMS. This gave Cartel Collections complete autonomy in updating the website with minimum effort. The CMS includes the ability to add/manage projects, languages, contact requests and other website content.
